Belfast Local Strategy Partnership - Study Tour November 2004
This page gives access to the evaluation of a Study Tour to examine US approaches to community investment. The Study Tour was undertaken on the initiative of Belfast Local Strategy Partnership in November 2004. A party of 17 people from the public, private and voluntary and community sectors examined leading approaches to community investment in Boston and then attended the US National Community Based Investment Conference in San Francisco and visited key projects in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The key aim of the Study Tour was to gain a better understanding of the US approach to double bottom line, market rate of return community investment. An evaluation questionnaire showed that participants felt that the Study Tour had achieved this objective to a very high degree. A number of members of the Study Tour have since been appointed to the Joint Implementation Group overseeing the implementation of the recommendations of our recently completed study of Finance for the Social Economy in Northern Ireland (follow this link for details) and the experience of the Study Tour will, therefore, feed directly into the implementation of Northern Ireland policy on community investment. Members of the Study Tour have proposed the formation of an Alliance for Community Investment in Northern Ireland and the evaluation report also details those proposals.
